Step 1:
Lay down the drop cloth to protect floors; remove existing baseboard; wipe wall with clean, damp cloth to prepare painting surface.
Step 2:
Using the tape measure, determine height for the top trim board by measuring up from the floor and lightly marking with a pencil; use the level and pencil to draw a horizontal line the length of the wall.
Step 3:
Affix painter's tape just above the horizontal line and any adjacent walls; apply pressure to tape to ensure tight seal with the wall.
Step 4:
Using the angled brush, apply paint just inside taped areas, then paint the remaining area with the woven roller; remove painter's tape while paint is still damp; allow paint to dry 24 hours.
Step 5:
Prep wooden boards by lightly sanding any rough surfaces; wipe with clean, damp cloth to remove dust or debris.
Step 6:
Using the angled brush, paint all sides of each board; allow paint to dry completely.
Step 7:
Install baseboard to wall by inserting finishing nails with the hammer along the studs.
Tip: Use a stud finder to locate studs. If you don't have a stud finder, know that most light switches and outlets are attached to a stud, which are typically spaced 16 inches apart.
Step 8:
Install vertical boards along studs by aligning bottom of board flush with the baseboard; secure to the wall with finishing nails and hammer.
Step 9:
Install top horizontal board flush with the vertical boards; insert finishing nails along the studs.
Step 10:
Use latex caulk to fill in all nail holes and gaps; use the clean, damp cloth to smooth caulked surfaces and allow to dry.
